Motion Design Story
Description
For this project, I used After Effects to showcase the motion graphics skills that I’ve accumulated over my class time. I knew that I wanted to tell a meaningful story with my design, therefore I decided to use a quote. As visible throughout this site, quotes define a large part of who I am. Something about the harmony between the sentences and the countless number of ways they could be felt, left a special feeling in my heart. The quote I used was ….
“Everything has changed and yet I'm more me than I've ever been"
— Iain Thomas.
This story is about how almost everything I once knew and loved in life has changed in the past couple of years, and yet I've never felt more like a better version of myself. It’s a reminder that change is scary, but it’s good.

Sketches
After Effects
I designed 39 layers to create this video.
This is an example of the ways that I used the transform and stroke tool to make the objects move. I would play with the opacity, position, scale, and start and end times of these tools for each illustration I designed. The more precise I was, the better the final effect was.
Using this many layers definitely got confusing so this project taught me to be more organized and intentional with the names I choose for each layer. This helps to finish these projects in a more timely manner.

Conclusion
After completing this project, I gained a new appreciation for animations and motion graphics as a whole. Motion graphics is a very tedious and time-consuming process that can be incredibly rewarding at the end. My favorite part about this project was how rewarding it felt to be finished at the end. I also loved the creative freedom we were given to make this project whatever we wanted it to be. I knew that I wanted to tell a story with my work, therefore I chose a quote that meant a lot to me. As you can see from the sketch page, I had many ideas of what I originally wanted this to look like in my head, however, I found that it was difficult to translate those into images or a motion graphic that seemed feasible. Once I landed on a solid story with images that I wanted to tell, the rest of the process was easier because it was just an editing game. If I could do this project again, I would spend a longer time cleaning up some of the edits I made to make the video look smoother overall. Something I’m proud of are the illustrations I made throughout. I designed the sunset city landscape, the school bus, the person walking and much more. I’m excited to explore more motion graphics in the future.
